Inside Storm in a Teacup

Parasols

Paper parasols have featured in Chinese culture for more than two millennia, and it is from these that its enduringly feminine european counterparts were derived in the middle of the 17th century in France and England.

Like the fan, the parasol was a vital tool in the art of flirtation. A lady could hold her parasol in such a way as to shadow her expression expression, disguise the direction of her gaze from a chaperone, or even camouflage her imperfections. Indeed, Lady Hamilton always carried a pink parasol, because she believed the rosy light it cast on her face made her look younger!

PLEASE NOTE Whilst we try to keep stocks of all our parasols, sometimes the more unusual styles may need to be placed on special order, resulting in a delay of up to 10 days before the order is processed. Please therefore allow up to 2 weeks for your parasol to arrive, or if you require your parasol urgently, please telephone to confirm delivery dates. Thank you.
